The Nutcracker, Remixed! Show Week includes 6 performances, 3 full dress rehearsals, and 4 split dress rehearsals at the Montrose Pavilion.

Auditions for Featured Roles
Auditions give eligible students the opportunity to be considered for featured and lead roles in Weehawken productions.
Before auditioning, families should review eligibility, audition expectations, required forms, rehearsal commitments, important dates, and what happens after casting.
Leads & Level 5/6 Information
This information is for students cast in featured or lead roles and dancers enrolled in Level 5/6 classes.
Families can find additional rehearsal expectations, required forms, scheduling information, performance commitments, and production-specific details.
Show Tights & Nudie Leotards
What Does My Dancer Need?
Your dancer’s costume information will list the specific base layer, tights, shoes, and accessories required for their role. Please check those instructions carefully before ordering.
Available Through Weehawken
Weehawken has classic pink tights and ballet shoes, nudie leotards, and natural-colored footless aerial tights available for purchase.
Orders placed through 610 Arts Collective can be delivered to your dancer’s class or rehearsal. You do not need to visit the Ridgway store.
Nudie Leotards
A nudie is a tan, camisole-style leotard worn as a base layer beneath costumes. It allows dancers to change costumes or put on street clothes without being undressed backstage.
Dancers may either purchase a nudie for $23 or borrow one from Weehawken.
When Will My Dancer Receive Their Nudie?
Nudie leotards are sent home with your dancer’s performance costume. They are not normally distributed immediately after you place the order.
Costumes begin going home during Parent Visitation Week and may continue to be distributed through Show Week. If you purchased a nudie but your dancer has not received it yet, please first check whether their performance costume has been sent home.
- If purchased: The nudie belongs to your dancer. Keep it after the performance and reuse it for future shows.
- If borrowed: The nudie must be returned during costume check-in immediately following the dancer’s final performance.
- Families borrowing a nudie must bring street clothes for the dancer to change into privately after returning it.
- Weehawken records whether each nudie was purchased or borrowed on the costume check-in list.
If your dancer plans to continue taking classes or performing with Weehawken, purchasing a nudie generally makes arrival, costume changes, and costume return easier.

Classic Pink
Classic pink is a light nude-pink shade designed to coordinate with traditional pink ballet slippers and create the classic ballet look. Weehawken carries classic pink tights, ballet shoes, and ballet uniforms through 610 Arts Collective.
Tights and Shoes That Match Skin Tone
Ballet tights and shoes are now available in a wider range of colors so dancers can choose dancewear that better coordinates with their natural skin tone.
When costume information asks for tights and ballet shoes that match the dancer’s skin tone, choose the shade that most closely coordinates with the dancer’s natural skin color. Dancewear Solutions offers a wider range of tights and ballet-shoe shades.
Aerial Silks & Lyra Tights
All aerial performers must wear tight-fitting leg coverings that protect the skin, allow safe movement, and create a clean performance look.
- If the costume does not cover the legs to the ankles, wear footless tights or convertible tights with the feet exposed.
- Acceptable options include natural-colored footless tights or classic pink convertible tights from Revolution Dancewear or an equivalent dancewear brand.
- Fitted dance pants or leggings may be worn when assigned. They should be solid black, tan, or a color that coordinates with the costume; snug at the ankle; and free from pockets or large logos.
Black Fishnet Tights
Some costumes require black fishnet tights. This requirement will be listed in your dancer’s costume information.
Weehawken sells black fishnet tights with a rhinestone back seam in adult sizes. If a youth dancer is large enough to wear an adult size, we recommend purchasing them through Weehawken because they are approximately half the price of the Capezio youth version.
Youth sizes that cannot fit the adult tights may be ordered directly from Capezio.
Do not select shipping when ordering from 610 Arts Collective. We will deliver the order to your dancer’s class, send it home with their costume, or have it available during rehearsal as appropriate.
Preparing & Caring for Costumes
Prepare Costumes Before Show Week
Costumes are significant investments that Weehawken maintains and
reuses for future productions. Please handle every costume carefully
and return all pieces after your dancer’s final performance.
Costumes Belong to Weehawken
Unless your costume information specifically says otherwise,
performance costumes are loaned to dancers and must be returned to
Weehawken.
Do not remove costume tags. We use the tags to track
costume sizes for future performers. If a tag feels itchy, cover it
with a small piece of masking tape rather than cutting it out.
When the Costume Comes Home
- Open the costume bag carefully. Review the costume
information provided by Weehawken and confirm that you understand
which pieces, tights, shoes, and accessories your dancer needs. - Check every costume piece. Make sure all listed
pieces are present and identify anything that needs attention
before Show Week. - Label personal belongings. Put your dancer’s name
on their shoes, tights, nudie, robe, storage container, and any
personally owned accessories. - Store everything together. Keep shoes, tights,
hairpieces, bobby pins, gloves, leggings, and other accessories
with the costume so nothing is forgotten. - Keep costumes away from pets, food, drinks, makeup, and
younger siblings. Store the costume in a clean, secure
location until rehearsal or performance day.
How to Fluff a Tutu
Although Weehawken steams tutus before sending them home, they may
need additional time to regain their shape after being transported
in a costume bag.
- Carefully remove the tutu from its costume bag.
- Hang it upside down from a sturdy hanger.
- Place it somewhere with plenty of room so it is not compressed by
other clothing. A doorway can work well. - Gently separate and fluff the layers with clean hands.
- Put the costume bag back over the tutu when transporting it to
rehearsal or the performance.
Removing Wrinkles
Most costumes can be gently steamed, but some fabrics, sequins,
appliqués, and decorative pieces may be damaged by heat.
- Use a garment steamer carefully and keep it a safe distance from
the fabric. - If you do not have a steamer, hang the costume in the bathroom
while a hot shower runs. Keep the costume away from direct water. - Do not place an iron directly on a costume.
- Do not use high heat on tulle, sequins, rhinestones, appliqués, or
delicate synthetic fabric. - If you are unsure how to treat a costume, ask Weehawken before
steaming, ironing, washing, or altering it.
Do Not Wash or Alter Costumes
Do not wash, dry-clean, permanently alter, cut, glue, sew, or attach
anything to a Weehawken costume unless you have received specific
instructions or permission.
If something does not fit correctly, a piece is missing, or the
costume is damaged, contact your dancer’s teacher or Weehawken before
attempting to repair it yourself.
Transporting the Costume
- Transport the costume on its original hanger and inside the
provided costume bag. - Make sure your dancer’s name is clearly written on the costume bag.
- Place small costume pieces and accessories in a labeled zip-top bag.
- Attach the accessory bag securely to the hanger or place it inside
the costume bag. - Check the costume and accessories before leaving home for every
rehearsal and performance.
Returning the Costume
Costumes must be checked in on-site immediately after your dancer’s
final performance. Costume check-in also opens after intermission for
dancers who have completed all of their roles.
Return the costume on its original hanger and inside the provided
costume bag. All costume pieces and accessories supplied by
Weehawken must be returned.
Missing, damaged, or unreturned costumes may result in a restocking
or replacement fee of up to $200.
What to Do & Bring for Show Week
Dress Rehearsal & Performance Checklist
Prepare everything before Show Week, label every item, and review these expectations with your dancer before arriving at the Montrose Pavilion.
Start With Your Dancer’s Assigned Schedule
Do not assume that every dancer attends every rehearsal or performance. Weehawken productions are split cast.
Review the personalized email from Lexi and the day-of-the-week page assigned to your dancer. Confirm the correct date, arrival time, rehearsal, performance, act, and pick-up instructions before leaving home.
Complete Before Show Week
- Review your dancer’s assigned dress rehearsal and performance schedule.
- Read the costume information and order all required tights, shoes, base layers, and accessories.
- Prepare, steam, and organize the costume before arriving at the Pavilion.
- Practice the assigned hairstyle and stage makeup before the first performance.
- Label every personal item with your dancer’s first and last name.
- Review backstage behavior and performance expectations with your dancer.
What Your Dancer Should Wear When Arriving
- Arrive wearing the assigned nudie leotard or other required base layer.
- Wear a labeled robe or loose street clothing over the base layer.
- Street clothing should open in the front or be loose enough to remove without disturbing finished hair or makeup.
- Arrive with performance hair completely styled and secured.
- Performance makeup is required for performances but is generally not required for dress rehearsal unless your dancer receives different instructions.
Do not use the Pavilion’s public restrooms as dressing, hair, or makeup preparation areas. Dancers should arrive prepared according to their assigned instructions.
What to Bring
- Costume: Bring the complete costume on its original hanger and inside the bag provided by Weehawken.
- Base layer: Wear or bring the assigned nudie leotard or other required base layer.
- Tights and dance shoes: Bring every pair required for the dancer’s role or roles.
- Street shoes: Dancers need shoes to wear outside. Dance shoes must never be worn outdoors because they carry dirt and grit onto the stage and damage the dance floor.
- Accessories: Place shoes, tights, bobby pins, hairpieces, gloves, and other small pieces in a labeled zip-top bag attached to the costume hanger or placed inside the costume bag.
- Storage container: Bring a Rubbermaid-style container, laundry basket, or sturdy box with a lid. Clearly label it with the dancer’s first and last name.
- Robe: Bring a labeled robe or oversized, front-opening garment to protect the costume while the dancer is waiting, resting, or eating.
- Water: Bring one labeled, non-spill water bottle already filled with water.
- Street clothes for the final performance: Bring labeled clothing and street shoes for your dancer to wear home after returning their costume and any borrowed nudie.
Food & Snacks
Only send a snack if your dancer will need one during a long rehearsal or performance call.
- Choose a simple snack that does not stain, melt, drip, or crumble.
- Do not send chocolate, brightly colored food, sticky candy, or staining drinks.
- Water is the preferred backstage drink.
- Dancers must cover their costume with a robe before eating.
Label Everything
Write your dancer’s first and last name on every personal item you want returned, including:
- Dance shoes and street shoes
- Tights and base layers
- Robes and street clothes
- Water bottles
- Costume and accessory bags
- Storage baskets, boxes, and containers
Unclaimed items will be held for one week after regular classes resume. Items that remain unclaimed after that time may be donated to a charitable reseller.
Backstage Behavior
Please review performance etiquette with your dancer before Show Week. Dancers are expected to:
- Follow directions from teachers, staff, and volunteers.
- Remain with their assigned class or backstage group.
- Keep voices quiet in backstage and theater areas.
- Respect other dancers, costumes, props, and personal belongings.
- Avoid behavior that distracts performers or disrupts the show.
Students who cannot follow backstage or performance expectations may be removed from the performance.
After the Final Performance
- Check in the complete costume immediately after the dancer’s final performance or after their final number when costume check-in is open.
- Return every Weehawken-owned costume piece, accessory, hanger, and costume bag.
- Return borrowed nudie leotards.
- Change into the street clothing and shoes brought from home.

Hair & Makeup for the Stage
Stage lighting and distance can wash out facial features and make expressions difficult for the audience to see. Performance hair and makeup help create a polished, consistent look and allow the audience to see each performer’s face and expression.
When Is Makeup Required?
- Stage makeup is required for performances unless your dancer receives different instructions.
- Makeup is not normally required for dress rehearsal.
- Performance hair is required for both dress rehearsals and performances so headpieces can be fitted and secured correctly.
- Leads or dancers with character-specific makeup may receive additional instructions.
Arrive With Makeup Finished
Performance makeup must be applied before arriving at the Montrose Pavilion.
Do not send young dancers backstage with unsupervised makeup, especially lipstick, eyeliner, or mascara.
Do not use the Pavilion’s public restrooms as hair, makeup, or dressing areas. Dancers should arrive with hair and makeup completed according to their instructions.
Basic Stage Makeup
Stage makeup may look stronger up close than everyday makeup. This is normal. Bright stage lighting washes out color and facial features, while distance makes subtle makeup difficult for the audience to see.
Traditional Feminine Stage Makeup
- Foundation or an even base
- Powder to reduce shine and set the makeup
- Blush so the face does not appear flat under stage lights
- Brown or neutral eyeshadow
- Black eyeliner
- Mascara
- Visible, long-lasting lipstick
Traditional Masculine Stage Makeup
- Powder to reduce shine
- Brownish or natural-looking blush to add color
- Light brown eyeliner or eye definition
- Natural lip color when needed
Makeup by Age
- Young performers: Keep the application simple and age-appropriate, but visible under stage lighting.
- Elementary-aged performers: Add more definition around the eyes, cheeks, and lips.
- Tweens, teens, leads, and upper-level dancers: Full stage makeup may be appropriate. Some roles may also require false eyelashes or character-specific makeup.
Lipstick Recommendation
A long-lasting matte or stain-style lipstick is recommended, especially for younger dancers. Long-wear lipstick is less likely to smear onto costumes, faces, hands, or other performers.

Performance Hair
Your dancer’s costume information or show email will list the required hairstyle. Follow those instructions rather than assuming every dancer needs the same style.
- Hair must be completely styled before arrival for dress rehearsals and performances.
- Hair should be clean, secure, and completely out of the dancer’s face.
- Ponytails should be secured with two strong elastic bands.
- Buns should be secured with hairpins and a hair net that matches the dancer’s hair color.
- Use gel and hairspray to control bangs, flyaways, and loose pieces.
- Bring extra bobby pins for buns, bangs, hats, headpieces, and other costume accessories.
- Make sure the hairstyle will remain secure while the dancer turns, jumps, performs floorwork, or works on an aerial apparatus.
Makeup Do’s
- Practice the complete look before the performance.
- Begin with a clean, moisturized face.
- Test unfamiliar products on a small area of skin in advance.
- Check that products are full and supplies are clean.
- Apply foundation or a base to create an even appearance.
- Use blush, lip color, and eye definition that can be seen from the audience.
- Set makeup with powder and setting spray when appropriate.
- Blot perspiration rather than wiping the face.
- Remove makeup thoroughly and gently after each performance.
Makeup Don’ts
- Do not share mascara, eyeliner, lipstick, brushes, combs, or other personal makeup products.
- Do not use an unfamiliar product without testing it first.
- Do not scrub or treat the skin roughly.
- Do not apply makeup while wearing the performance costume.
- Do not allow lipstick, foundation, or other products to touch the costume.
- Do not forget visible areas such as the neck and ears when an even base is needed.
- Do not stay up late before a performance. Rest helps performers look and feel their best.
- Do not use glitter eyelashes. They can be distracting under stage lights and do not read well from the audience.

Performance Ticket Information
Confirm your dancer’s assigned cast and performance before purchasing tickets. Weehawken productions are split cast, and not every dancer performs in every show.
The Nutcracker, Remixed! Tickets
Ticket links and on-sale dates will be posted once the performance schedule and casting information are finalized.
Nutcracker Tickets — Coming in OctoberBefore You Purchase
Confirm your dancer’s show before buying tickets. Check the personalized email from Lexi and the Class Casting Cheat Sheet to verify the correct performance date and show number.
Tickets are nonrefundable and cannot be exchanged for a different performance if tickets are purchased for the wrong cast or show.
Ticket Policies
- All sales are final. Tickets are nonrefundable and nonexchangeable.
- Digital tickets only: Paper tickets are not issued. Present the ticket on your phone or other device when you arrive.
- No ticket holds: We cannot hold tickets or seats without payment.
- No show exchanges: Weehawken cannot move tickets from one performance to another. Families may arrange a private ticket trade with another family, but Weehawken does not manage those exchanges.
- Purchase early: Parents generally receive access before public ticket sales open. Purchase early if you need a particular performance or seating area.
- A ticket purchase is the only way to guarantee admission. We cannot guarantee that seats will remain available at the door.
Reserved Seating
Reserved seating is generally available in the center section, rows 2–15.
Reserved seats will be labeled at the theater with the ticket buyer’s name. Purchase the correct number of adjacent seats in one order if your group wants to sit together.
General Admission
General-admission seating is first come, first served within the designated general-admission area.
We do not reserve general-admission rows or hold sections for families or groups. Arrive together if your group wants to find seats together.
Tickets for Young Children
Children younger than 3 may sit on an adult’s lap without a separate ticket, provided they do not block the view of other audience members.
Any child occupying their own seat must have a purchased ticket.
Where to Purchase Tickets
Online
Purchase tickets online with a credit or debit card using the production’s official ticket link. Both reserved and general-admission options may be available.
By Phone
To purchase by phone with a credit card, call 970-318-0150. Phone orders include a $1 convenience fee per ticket. Please leave a message if we are teaching and unable to answer.
Does My Dancer Need a Ticket?
Performers do not need a ticket for the show in which they are performing because they remain backstage with their assigned group.
A live-feed monitor is available in the dressing-room area so performers can follow the production while they are backstage. A performer who wants to sit in the audience for a different show must have a ticket for that performance.
Performance Photos, Video & Livestream
Share the Performance Magic
Families are welcome to celebrate and share their dancer’s performance while respecting the performers, audience members, and the production.
No Flash Photography
Flash photography is prohibited during performances. A flash can distract performers, interfere with audience members, and create a safety concern for dancers and aerialists onstage.
Taking Photos During the Performance
- Turn off the flash before the performance begins.
- Dim your phone screen so it does not distract nearby audience members.
- Remain in your seat while taking pictures.
- Do not stand in aisles, move toward the stage, or block another audience member’s view.
- Keep phones and cameras silent during the production.
Posting on Social Media
Please wait until the production has officially opened before posting performance photos or video clips. This helps protect surprises for dancers and families attending later performances.

Share Your Performance Photos
We welcome photos from friends, family members, and community photographers who capture great moments during our productions.

Posed Family Photos
Families are invited to take posed pictures at the Weehawken-themed photo backdrop in the Montrose Pavilion lobby.
Please keep dancers in a robe or protective covering whenever they are eating, waiting, or moving through crowded areas in costume.
Livestream
Livestream access is generally available for each performance so family and friends can watch from outside the theater.
Livestream tickets are $20 and are available for purchase on show day.
The viewing link and purchase instructions will be posted when they become available.
Digital Performance Video
A professionally edited digital recording may be available for purchase after the production.
Editing takes time. Purchase information and the final video link will be shared once the recording has been completed and uploaded.

Full-length productions are generally available through the Weehawken Arts and Sherbino Vimeo archive. Short performance clips, trailers, behind-the-scenes videos, and selected older productions are available on the Weehawken Dance YouTube channel.
Not every past performance is permanently available online. The available titles, prices, and viewing options may vary by production.

Volunteer During Performances
Help Bring the Performance to Life
Weehawken productions depend on families and community volunteers. From supporting dancers backstage to helping audience members in the lobby, volunteers are an essential part of every performance.

Volunteer roles and sign-up links will be posted once casting and the Show Week schedule are finalized.

Parents, grandparents, siblings, extended family members, alumni, and community supporters are welcome to volunteer.
Each role has different responsibilities, arrival times, and attendance requirements. Please review the complete description before selecting a position.
Volunteer Roles May Include
- Backstage class supervision
- Helping dancers organize costumes and accessories
- Assisting with costume check-in
- Lobby and audience assistance
- Ticket scanning and check-in
- Ushering and helping audience members locate seating
- Merchandise or concession support
- General production and Show Week assistance
Read the Attendance Requirement Before Signing Up
Some backstage positions require the volunteer to attend the assigned cast’s dress rehearsal and all performances connected to that role.
Do not select a role unless you can attend every required rehearsal, arrival time, and performance listed in the position description. Missing a volunteer shift may leave an entire class without its assigned backstage support.
Backstage Roles
Backstage volunteers remain with their assigned class or area and may not be able to sit in the audience during the performance.
A live-feed monitor is available in the dressing-room area so backstage volunteers and performers can follow the show.
Front-of-House Roles
Many lobby, usher, ticketing, and front-of-house roles allow volunteers to watch part or all of the performance after their assigned duties are complete.
The individual sign-up description will explain whether the role includes an opportunity to watch the show.
Volunteer Expectations
- Arrive at the time listed for your position.
- Check in with the designated Weehawken staff member or volunteer coordinator.
- Remain in your assigned area until your duties are complete or you have been released.
- Follow all instructions from Weehawken staff and Pavilion personnel.
- Keep backstage information, casting surprises, costumes, and production details private until the show has opened.
- Help maintain a calm, supportive, and organized environment for performers.
- Contact Weehawken immediately if an emergency prevents you from completing your assigned shift.
