Weehawken Dance Performances are Exceptional!

Weehawken’s The Nuctracker 2024
Performance Opportunities for Dancers & Aerialists
Weehawken Dance offers meaningful, exciting performance opportunities for youth dancers and aerialists throughout Montrose, Ridgway, and Ouray County. Students of all ages have the chance to participate in fully produced shows, community events, and seasonal appearances that celebrate creativity, teamwork, and personal growth.
Each year, dancers and aerialists are invited to perform in our two large-scale, family-friendly productions at the Montrose Pavilion—our long-running Nutcracker in December and a fully staged Spring Dance Production in May. These shows bring together hundreds of performers and thousands of audience members from across the region.
In addition to these major productions, Weehawken students may take part in parade performances, holiday events, pop-ups, and community showcases. These experiences help young performers build confidence, stage presence, and artistic expression in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Our dance performances in Montrose include ballet, aerial silks, jazz, tap, hip hop, and lyrical works that highlight student growth and artistry.
Dance and Aerial Dance are Performing Arts
In addition to our dance training exercises, students have the opportunity to perform. Because dance is a performing art, we consider performance an important part of our program. Performing teaches dancers to work as a team, be confident in front of an audience, and be proud of their accomplishments, boosting self-esteem. It also gives parents a chance to see their child’s improvement over the semester.
These dance performances in Montrose are a highlight of our year and an incredible experience for our dancers.

Movement from Class Evolves into Movement on Stage
Performance choreography is a tool we use to teach the curriculum of the class. Students will learn choreography during class that incorporates the skills taught for each level. At the conclusion of the semester, we have “tech week,” the week prior to the performance. This allows students and behind-the-scenes helpers (lighting designers, music tech, stage managers, dressers, costumers, etc.) to put the entire performance together. During the performance, students will showcase the choreography they have learned, which includes the steps they have been practicing in class. At Weehawken, education is paramount. Our performances showcase what your dancer is learning in class.
Weehawken Dance holds auditions for students interested in “special parts” or lead roles. Audition dates, prerequisites, available roles, and the number of featured parts vary with each production, as every performance is unique.
To be eligible to audition:
- Students must be currently enrolled in a Weehawken Dance class.
- Students auditioning for lead roles must be prepared to attend additional rehearsals, primarily in Montrose and occasionally in Ridgway.
- Consistent attendance and excellent communication regarding these rehearsals are required to maintain eligibility for a lead role.
Please visit the Auditions page for detailed information about when and where auditions will be held, how to prepare, and what to expect for the upcoming semester’s performance. A thorough review of this information is essential.
Performing is at the heart of our mission at Weehawken Dance. Our Montrose dance performances allow students to apply their technique in a real-world setting, build resilience, and celebrate their progress in front of family and friends. Whether it’s the Nutcracker, our Spring Dance production, or aerial silks showcases, these opportunities create powerful memories and help dancers grow in confidence and connection.

Tajiana Rueschhoff’s dance journey began at the age of 5 when she first stepped into a small ballet school in Mississippi, sparking a passion that would endure a lifetime. Growing up in Ouray, Colorado, she continued to nurture her love for dance with Weehawken, honing her skills over the years. Travel played a pivotal role in her development, allowing her to train under diverse instructors and immerse herself in various dance styles. Summers were often spent in intensive training at the Kansas City Ballet, further shaping her dedication to dance. Tajiana pursued her passion with pre-professional training at the Northwest Florida Ballet. Now, back in Ouray, she is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Geology at the University of Florida while eagerly embracing the opportunity to share her profound love for dance through teaching.
