Adult ballet class at Weehawken Dance

Big News for Montrose

Our New Home Is Almost Ready!

We are incredibly excited to welcome our dancers and families into Weehawken’s beautiful new permanent Montrose studio!

Our new facility is currently expected to open approximately three weeks later than originally planned. Montrose adult ballet classes will still begin as scheduled the week of August 24. Miss Tajiana’s Ridgway class will begin in October.

Miss Rachel’s Tuesday evening class will begin at First Presbyterian Church.

Miss Pang’s Thursday morning class will begin at the Montrose Field House.

We are grateful to our community partners for helping us keep everyone dancing during this short transition. Thank you for your flexibility and patience as we make this exciting move!

As soon as we are ready to begin moving classes into the new studio, we will communicate the transition as quickly and clearly as possible through email and updates on our website. Registered students will receive advance notice before their class location changes.

New to Ballet? You Belong Here.

You do not need previous ballet experience, a dancer’s body, or exceptional flexibility to begin. Instructors explain movements clearly and provide options so each student can work at an appropriate level.

No performance commitment is required. Adult ballet is recreational, so you can participate simply for the movement, technique, creativity, and enjoyment of dancing.

What Class Is Like

Technique, Movement & Enjoyment

Each class combines traditional ballet technique with thoughtful instruction appropriate for adult bodies and experience levels.

Beginners learn the foundations while experienced dancers receive options that allow them to refine technique and continue progressing.

What to Expect in Class

Warm-Up

Class begins with gentle movement, stretching, foot and arm exercises, and preparation for the work ahead.

Barre Work

Practice pliés, tendus, dégagés, and other classical exercises while developing alignment, strength, mobility, and control.

Center Work

Move away from the barre for exercises that develop balance, coordination, musicality, turns, jumps, and short combinations.

What to Wear

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. A leotard and tights are welcome but never required.

Leggings with a fitted shirt or another comfortable movement outfit work well.

Ballet slippers are recommended. If you do not own ballet slippers yet, socks are acceptable for your first class.

Why Adults Choose Ballet

Strength and mobility: Develop control, posture, flexibility, and functional strength.

Balance and coordination: Improve body awareness and confidence in movement.

Creative focus: Enjoy music and movement while giving your mind a break from daily responsibilities.

Community: Connect with other adults in an encouraging class environment.

Returning to Something You Once Loved?

Many adults return to ballet after years—or even decades—away. You do not need to be where you once were to enjoy dancing again.

Whether you are stepping up to the barre for the first time or returning to a familiar place, you are welcome here.
