Youth Aerial Classes in Montrose & Ridgway
Progressive aerial training. Creative movement. Unforgettable performance experiences.
Weehawken offers youth aerial classes for beginning through advanced students on silks, lyra, sling, and other aerial apparatuses. Students build strength, coordination, body awareness, technique, artistry, and confidence through thoughtfully sequenced, level-appropriate instruction.
All fall classes participate in Weehawken’s fully staged production of The Nutcracker, Remixed! at the Montrose Pavilion. Most classes perform in one show, while some older and advanced classes may perform in multiple casts. Silks 3/4 students may also audition for featured aerial roles.

Classes Begin August 24—Even While Our New Studio Is Being Finished
Our permanent Montrose studio is currently expected to open approximately three weeks later than planned. During this short transition, Montrose youth aerial classes will begin at either Flex Rec Center or CrossFit Agoge. Ridgway classes will begin at the Old School House.
The class schedule below gives the correct starting location for every class. Registered families will receive advance notice before their class location changes.

Please note: Free trial classes are not available for aerial. If a class is not the right fit, families may withdraw after the first class.

About mixed-level classes: Classes such as Aerial 1/2 and Silks 3/4 are intentionally designed to support students at different stages of development. This allows instructors to provide appropriate challenges and place students according to their experience, readiness, and individual progress.

Age & Placement Guide
Not sure where your aerialist belongs? Ages are general guidelines; previous experience, physical readiness, skill consistency, and instructor recommendation may also affect placement.
Beginning Aerial
Intro to Aerial
Ages 5+
For brand-new beginners. Students are introduced to fundamental shapes, movement patterns, apparatus awareness, and beginning strength and coordination.
Intro to Aerial / Aerial 1
Ages 5–8
A mixed-level class for new students and young aerialists ready for the next step. Students build strength, coordination, confidence, and beginning aerial vocabulary through structured progressions and simple sequences.
Aerial 1
Ages 8–10
For students with some aerial or movement experience, or those ready to progress beyond Intro. Classes continue building foundational technique, strength, coordination, and independence.
Developing Aerialists
Aerial 1/2
Ages 7–11
A mixed-level class for students developing foundational and early intermediate skills. Instruction is adjusted to support each student’s current experience and readiness.
Aerial 2
Ages 9–11
Builds on established foundations with increased focus on technique, strength, aerial vocabulary, transitions, and skill consistency.
Aerial 2/3
Ages 9+ with Prior Experience
For experienced aerial students ready to build more complex skills, strength, sequencing, and technical consistency. Instructor approval may be required.
Silks & Lyra
Silks 1/2
Ages 10+
For students progressing from Aerial 2 or beginning focused silks training at an older age.
Silks 2/3
Ages 11+ with Prior Experience
For experienced students ready to refine technique and progress into more complex silks skills, transitions, and sequences. Instructor approval is required.
Silks 3/4
Ages 13+
Advanced silks training with increased emphasis on strength, technique, complex sequences, choreography, and performance. Instructor approval is required.
Lyra
Ages 10+
Focused training on aerial hoop, including mounts, poses, transitions, balance, strength, lines, and creative sequencing.

Pricing is per class for the 14-week Fall semester.

Additional Fees
- Show Fee: $50 per semester
- Annual Registration Fee: $25 per student, paid once each year
- Aerial Leads Rehearsal Fee: $50 per semester, only if a Silks 3/4 student is cast in a role requiring rehearsals outside regular class
Total for one 60-minute Fall aerial class: $400
This includes 14 weeks of instruction, costume rental, the $50 show fee, the $25 annual registration fee, and participation in one performance of The Nutcracker, Remixed!

Fall 2026 Production
Get Ready for The Nutcracker, Remixed!
Fall aerial students will take the stage as part of Weehawken’s fully produced, story-driven version of The Nutcracker. Show Week takes place December 7–13 at the Montrose Pavilion, bringing dancers and aerialists together for an unforgettable performance experience.
What to Expect During Show Week
Show Week is one of the most exciting parts of the semester. Our productions are split-cast, with dress rehearsals and performances taking place throughout the week at the Montrose Pavilion.
Please keep December 7–13 available for Show Week.
- Most aerial students will have one dress rehearsal and one performance.
- Some upper-level classes may perform in multiple casts and have additional rehearsals or performances.
- For most younger students, the dress rehearsal takes place earlier on the same day as their performance.
- Final cast assignments, rehearsal schedules, performance dates, and call times will be emailed in October.

Auditions for Featured Aerial Roles
Students enrolled in Silks 3/4 may audition for featured and lead aerial roles in The Nutcracker, Remixed!

Looking Ahead to Spring 2027
The Adventure Continues with Peter Pan
Winter/Spring aerial classes begin in January and culminate in our fully staged production of Peter Pan at the Montrose Pavilion in May. Students will soar into a world of pirates, fairies, Lost Boys, and aerial adventure.
