Our Teaching Philosophy
At Weehawken Dance, our instructors share a unified philosophy: every student deserves high-quality training, genuine encouragement, and a place where they feel seen and supported. Our faculty brings together experience in ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, lyrical, contemporary dance, and aerial arts, creating a diverse and well-rounded teaching team for families throughout Montrose, Ridgway, and Ouray County.
We believe great teaching is about more than demonstrating steps. It means nurturing confidence, curiosity, musicality, strength, and artistry. Our instructors provide developmentally appropriate training that builds strong foundations while leaving room for creativity, exploration, and joy. Whether a student is attending a first class or progressing into advanced training, we want them to grow at their own pace and discover what inspires them.
We also value connection between teachers and students, dancers and families, and members of our larger community. Performances, mentorship opportunities, and class traditions help students feel part of something meaningful. Our teachers model professionalism, kindness, resilience, and a genuine love for the arts.
Across our locations, instructors collaborate to provide thoughtful teaching, positive guidance, and clear expectations. We balance strong technique with creativity, giving students opportunities to challenge themselves, express their ideas, and feel proud of what they accomplish.
Our goal is simple: inspire movement, support growth, and help students of all ages thrive—both onstage and in life.
