Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip Hop & Acro Dress Code

Students may wear dancewear or comfortable athletic clothing. No jeans.

• Jazz: Any style of black jazz shoe is acceptable.
• Tap: Any style of black tap shoe is acceptable. Weehawken also has a large collection of used tap shoes in a wide range of sizes. If we have a pair that fits, students are welcome to borrow them for the semester at no cost. While we have many sizes available, we cannot guarantee a pair for every student.
• Lyrical: Shoe requirements are TBD. Please plan to dance barefoot for the first class. After the first week, instructors will recommend the appropriate footwear based on the class's needs.

Students should wear black, flat-bottomed sneakers reserved for class. Dance shoes should not be worn as street shoes or outside the studio. Please change into your dance shoes after arriving at the building.

Recommended Shoes

• Black Converse-style sneakers work well for beginners.
• Additional dance sneaker options:
  • Adult: Adult Dance Sneaker Option
  • Child: Alexandra Kids Glossy Sneaker
  • Adult & Child: Canvas High-Top Dance Sneakers (Urban Groove)
• For more advanced dancers, consider an all-black high-top basketball shoe from brands such as Nike, Adidas, or Puma. These tend to provide excellent support and durability, though they are typically more expensive.

Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows for movement. Pants should cover the knees, and hair must be pulled back and out of the face.

No jeans, skirts, spaghetti straps, or exposed midriffs.

Hats are encouraged!

Students may wear dancewear or comfortable athletic clothing. No jeans.

Students should expect to dance barefoot as well as in either black jazz shoes (any brand or style) and/or pink or skin-tone ballet shoes (any brand or style).

Hair must be pulled back and securely fastened to stay out of the dancer's face.

Acro dancers spend much of class tumbling and working upside down, so proper attire is important for safety.

Students must wear form-fitting clothing, such as a leotard or leggings/shorts with a fitted top. Baggy or loose clothing should be avoided, as it can fall over the dancer's face or restrict movement.

Dancers must be barefoot (no socks) for class.

Hair must be pulled back and securely fastened to stay out of the dancer's face.

No jewelry is permitted, especially dangling necklaces, bracelets, or earrings, as they can create a safety hazard.

Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows for plenty of movement. Athletic clothing such as T-shirts, leggings, athletic pants, or shorts is recommended. Please avoid jeans or restrictive clothing.

Wear comfortable athletic shoes or sneakers that are easy to dance in. Shoes should be clean and reserved for class. Dance shoes should not be worn as street shoes or outside the studio. Please change into your shoes after arriving at the building.

DANCEWEAR

We carry basic pink ballet shoes, black jazz shoes, tights, select leotards, ballet uniforms, and Weehawken logo wear at our studios.

The following items are not available for purchase at our studios. We recommend ordering them from one of the retailers listed below:

Appropriate footwear is required for all classes. Students should wear the required shoes for their class and must wear the footwear selected by the instructor for performances.

ORDERING FROM WEEHAWKEN

For tights, ballet slippers, jazz shoes, and uniforms for Primary, Level 1, and Level 2 ballet girls, please use the link below to order through the 610 Arts Collective online store.

Your items will be delivered to your class for pickup. Please select "Pick Up" at checkout rather than "Shipping" to avoid shipping charges.

NEED HELP WITH SIZING?

Ouray County: During business hours (Tuesday–Friday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM), call the 610 Arts Collective at 970-318-0308. Staff can assist you with sizing and provide access to a classroom at 610 Clinton Street in Ridgway for an in-person fitting.

Montrose: In-person sizing assistance is available during dance class hours, typically in the afternoons and evenings.
