BALLET Dress Code Policies

Pre, Primary, Level 1 & 2 Ballet

For tights, ballet slippers, jazz shoes, and uniforms for primary & level 1 & 2 ballet girls, please use the link to order from the 610 Gallery website. We will have your items ready for you at class. We do have a handful of burgandy (level 3) leotards in stock at the Montrose Field House location as well.

In-Person Help:

  • Ouray County: For assistance during business hours, visit The 610 Arts Collective at 610 Clinton Street in Ridgway (Tuesday - Friday, 10 AM - 5 PM). The staff can help you access a classroom for an in-person try-on.

  • Montrose: In-person help is available during dance class hours at the Montrose Field House, typically after school hours.

Summer Dance Only:
Dancers may wear a leotard of any color and tights. Starting in the fall, dancers must follow the specified ballet uniform colors for their level.

Pre Ballet
  • Pink or skin tone ballet shoes & tights (both should be the same color, and will also be worn for the performance). These can be ordered from the link above along with ballet shoes.
  • Any dance attire including leotards, skirts, tutus, tights, ect. that dancers can move in. No jeans.
  • Hair pulled back & in a bun if possible.

Primary Ballet
  • Pink or skin tone ballet shoes & tights (both should be the same color, and will also be worn for the performance).
  • Skirted pink leotard from Revolution Dancewear. These can be ordered from the link above along with ballet shoes and tights.
  • Hair in a bun

Ballet Level 1 & 2
  • Pink or skin tone ballet shoes & tights (both should be the same color, and will also be worn for the performance)
  • Light Blue leotard from Revolution Dancewear, any style. These can be ordered from the link above along with ballet shoes and tights.
  • Hair in a bun

Male Ballet Dancers
  • Dance pants or tights and a shirt. Athletic clothing is acceptable. Jeans are not.
  • BLACK ballet shoes.
  • If the hair is long or the dancer has bangs, hair pulled back and in a bun.

Ballet 3 & 4
  • Burgundy leotard, any style
  • Classic Pink Tights or Tights that match skin tone
  • Ballet shoes that are the same color as tights
  • Hair in a bun

Ballet 5 & 6
  • Black leotard any style
  • Classic Pink Tights or Tights that match skin tone
  • Ballet shoes that are the same color as tights
  • Hair in a bun

Ballet 3+ & Guys

For upper level (pointe and level 3 and up), Guys uniforms and other apparel, use this link to order from discount dance. Search our studio (Weehawken Creative Arts) and use our teacher code 59479.

Additional Information on Ballet Specific Attire

  • In addition to their uniform, dancers may wear leg warmers, ballet skirts (no tutus), tight fitting athletic shorts in solid black (or a complementary color to their uniform), or ballet sweaters for warm up. It is up to the teacher’s discretion if they may be worn for longer than warm-up. Discount Dance & Amazon have many options for these items.
  • Appropriate footwear must be worn for all classes. Each class will be required to wear the shoe assigned for the performance as chosen by the teacher.
  • All female Ballet students primary level and up:
    • must wear their uniform to ballet class. During rehearsals students may wear other dance clothing, but no street clothing.
    • Acceptable rehearsal clothing: Leotard with tights, shorts, leggings, leg warmers, ballet skirt, tight fitting dance pants.
    • must wear their hair up off their neck in a bun. If hair is too short, they must wear hair back in clips or a headband.
    • Female Partnering students need to wear a leotard and tights whenever practicing Pas de Deux. No leg warmers or excess baggy clothing. Dancers can get caught up in clothing and can result in a dancer getting dropped or falling.
