What are the Aerial Arts?
Aerial arts involve creating art with one’s body through movement or dance while using an aerial apparatus, giving the illusion of flight or weightlessness. It's a great core-based full-body calisthenics workout. Aerial arts are for everyone, regardless of shape or size. Join us at Weehawken Creative Arts for aerial instruction, offering classes in Ridgway, Montrose, and Ouray for ages 6 to adult! Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced aerialist looking for a space to “hang,” you can find it all at Weehawken!

Class Offerings:

  • Silks: Aerial silks (also known as aerial contortion, aerial ribbons, aerial tissues, fabric, ribbon, or tissu) involve performing aerial acrobatics while hanging from fabric.
  • Lyra: A lyra hoop, or aerial hoop, is a circular steel ring suspended in the air by a cable or cord attached to the ceiling.
  • Sling: Also called aerial yoga, this is a type of airborne fitness practiced in a silk hammock suspended from the ceiling.
  • Circus: Youth classes focus on an introduction to aerial mixed apparatus and contortion through active flexibility exercises. It's a safe and fun introduction to aerial and acrobatic dance for youth and a great stepping stone to our tween/teen silks and lyra classes.
  •  Active Flexibility: This class complements aerial arts and is highly recommended for those new to the arts or transitioning into performing. It focuses on building strength and joint stability through active flexibility exercises, helping increase dynamic flexibility necessary for maximum range of motion.
  • Aerial Conditioning: This is a mixed-levels class. Students are provided with strength-building activities on and off the aerial apparatus, focusing on the muscle groups necessary to safely perform aerial movements. Aerial movement strength training is applicable to many other disciplines, making this class a great addition to any training regimen. No prior experience is necessary.
